Inner Tie Rods 101
As you can see from the picture of the inner tie rod, it is basically a rod that screws into the rack. There is a ball like joint on the end of the smaller rod where it is inserted into the bigger part that screws into the steering rack. When the inner tie rod is worn, the ball joint moves in and out, which it is not supposed to do. There is no way to fix this, you can just replace it.
